Skill level: Intermediate
Gauge: With 4mm/G hook
2 puff st, 3 dc, 2 puff st, 3 dc = 4 inches
7 rows worked in pattern above = 4 inches

Size: child/teen (19-20”) adult med/large (21-22”), adult xlarge (22-23”)
You will need:
1 skein Lion Brand Jeans (worsted/#4 weight) Color: Top stitch
Fiber: 100% acrylic
Ball weight :3.5oz/100g/246yds

Crochet hooks 4mm/G, 3.75/F , 3.25/D Scissors
Tapestry needle

Stitches Used:
Sl st: slip stitch
Ch: chain
Sc: single crochet
Dc: double crochet
FPDC: Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC: Back Post Double Crochet
Puff St: [yo, through the st, yo and back through the st, giving a little tug so it is not too tight on your hook] repeat that 2 more times in the same st, yo and pull through all 7 loops, ch1
Instructions:
With your yarn and 4mm hook make a Magic CircleRound 1: ch1, 5 (6, 6) sc inside the circle, pull the end tail closed, sl st with the first sc you made.
Round 2: ch1, * Puff st 2 times in the next st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first puff st. You will have 10, (12, 12) puff st
Round 3: ch1, in between each puff st you will make 2 puff st all around, sl st with the first puff st. You will have 20, (24, 24) puff st
Round 4: ch1, in between the first 2 puff st make 2 puff st, sk a puff st, *sk the next sp, in between the next 2 puff st make 2 puff st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the top of the first puff st. 20, (24, 24) puff st
Round 5: ch1, in between the first 2 puff st make 2 puff st, sk a puff st, dc in the space between 2 puffs st, *in between the next 2 puff st make 2 puff st, dc in the sp between the 2 puff st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first puff st. You will have 20, (24, 24) puff st and 10, (12, 12) dc
Round 6: ch1, in between the first 2 puff st make 2 puff st, sk a puff st, 2 dc in the dc from previous round *in between the next 2 puff st make 2 puff st, 2 dc in the dc from previous round* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first puff st. You will have 20, (24, 24) puff st and 20, (24, 24) dc
Round 7: ch1, in between the first 2 puff st make 2 puff st, sk a puff st, 1 (1, 2) dc in the dc from previous round, 2 (2, 2) dc in next dc *in between the next 2 puff st make 2 puff st, 1 (1, 2) dc in the dc

Rounds 8-15 (-20, -20): ch1, in between the first 2 puff st make 2 puff st, sk a puff st, dc in each of the dc *in between the next 2 puff st make 2 puff st, dc in each of the dc* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first puff st. You will have 20, (24, 24) puff st and 30, (36, 48) dc
This is a slouchy hat but if you want more of a beanie style hat you can do less rounds before moving on to the edging.
Edging:
Change to 3.75mm/F

Round 1: ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in next puff st, * dc in each dc, dc on top of each puff st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the top of the ch3. You will have 50 (60, 72)
Round 2: around the ch3 from the previous round make a front post slip st (just like making a FPDC only with a sl st) Ch3 (counts as first FPDC), FPDC around next st, *BPDC around next 2 st, FPDC around next 2 st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first st.
Switch to 3.25mm/D hook
Rounds 3-5: around the ch3 from the previous round make a front post slip st (just like making a FPDC only with a sl st) Ch3 (counts as first FPDC), FPDC around next st, *BPDC around next 2 st, FPDC around next 2 st* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the first st.
Fasten off on the 5th round.
