To Begin your Top first you must choose your Cup size below. There are 2 options to choose from. Make 2 for the cup size you need, then move on to the clothing size you need for your Tankini. Example if you have a larger bust but wear a small, then make the larger cup size and follow the small directions for the body.
First you will choose your cup size below
Smaller cup sizes (A, B, Small C)
With your hook and yarn make a slip knot and chain of 22
Row 1: in the 2nd ch from hook hdc, hdc in next 19 ch, in the last ch make 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, DO NOT TURN! Work on the other side of your base chain, hdc in each of the 20 st, turn your work. You will have 44 hdc
Row 2: (RS)ch1, in BLO hdc in next 22 st, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in the ch2 sp, in BLO hdc in last 22 st, turn your work. 48 hdc in total.
Row 3: ch1, in FLO hdc in next 24 st, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in the ch2 sp, in FLO hdc in last 24 st, turn your work. 52 hdc in total
Repeat Rows 2 and 3, adding 4 extra st per Row. For my size a larger B, I made mine 16 rows and fasten off. You will continue to make more or less rows until the Triangle fits your cup size. Repeat for the Second Triangle, But DO NOT Fasten off for the second Triangle. Continue below to join the Triangles together.
For Larger Cup sizes (Larger C, D, DD) *note: by making a smaller ch for the Larger Cup sizes, you will be able to attain width for better coverage. If you just made the smaller cup size to get width your height would be longer than desired.
With your hook and yarn make a slip knot and chain 14 Row 1: in the 2nd ch from hook hdc, hdc in next 11 st, in the last ch make (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc), DO NOT TURN! Work on the other side of your base chain, hdc in each of the 12 st, turn your work. You will have 28 hdc
Row 2 (RS): ch1, in BLO hdc until you reach the ch2 sp, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in the ch2 sp, in BLO hdc until you reach the last st, Turn your work. You will have 32st.
Row 3: ch1, in FLO hdc until you reach the ch2 sp (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in the ch2sp, in FLO hdc until you reach the last st, Turn your work. You will have 36 st.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you reach the desired Size for your Triangle to fit your cup size, Fasten off and repeat for the Second triangle but DO NOT Fasten off for the second Triangle, Continue below to Join the Triangles together.
Joining the Triangles together Now is where you will determine the size you will make, Example if you made the larger cup but wear a small dress size you will follow the small st count.
Row 1: Since you didn’t Fasten off on the second triangle you will begin here, ch 8 (8, 8, 10, 10), you will now join your chain to the other triangle top piece, pointy side down you will join with a sc,
You will now pick up 37 (42, 47,51, 56) sc across the first Triangle, once you are done picking up your st for the bottom, ch1, Do not Turn your work, sc all along the side of your triangle until your reach the ch2 sp, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in the ch2 sp, sc all the way down the other side of your triangle until you reach the ch
8 (8, 8, 10, 10) sc in each of the ch, you will now pick up 37 (42, 47, 51, 56) sc along the bottom of the second triangle, then you will ch1, sc up the side of the triangle till you reach the ch2 sp, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in the ch2 sp,sc in each st down the triangle top again until you reach the last st, you should be back at the ch 8 (8, 8, 10, 10) sl st and fasten off, hide all loose tails.
BODY You will now join your yarn to the left side of your top and begin to ch 110 (120, 130, 140, 150), being careful not to twist your chain you will now join it to the other side of your top, making a circle now you will be working in the round. Best to try on your top now to see if it fits, you may need to adjust the ch, if you do add or remove them in multiples of 3. Round 1: sc in each st around until you reach the first sc. You will have a total of 192 (212, 232, 252, 272) st Round 2: (Start of the star st) ch3 in second chain from hook insert hook and yo pull yarn through the loop, repeat that in the 3rd chain from hook as well as the back loops only of the next 3 sc, you will have 6 loops on your hook, yo and draw hook through all loops, ch2,* in the base of the chain 2 (refer to the pic below), little opening that was just made insert your hook and yo, pull yarn through the opening, insert your hook in the base of the last st you made as well as the back loops only of the next 3 sc, you will have 6 loops on your hook, YO and pull through all loops, ch2* You will repeat from *to* to the end of your work sl st with the first star you made. Round 4: *at the top of the half star you made in the previous round (refer to pic below) you will make 3 hdc* you will repeat from *to* to the end of your work sl st with the first hdc you made. You will have completed the second half of the star stitch pattern. You will have 192 (212, 232, 252, 272) hdc. Round 5: ch1, sc in each st around, sl st with the first sc, you will have 192 (212, 232, 252, 272) sc Round 6: ch1, sc in the BLO all around, sl st with the first sc, you will have 192 (212, 232, 252, 272) sc Round 7-8: ch1, sc in each st around, sl st with first sc. Rounds 9-12: Repeat Rounds 2-6 Rounds 13-15: Repeat Rounds 7 (3 rounds of sc) Rounds 16-19: Repeat Rounds 2-6 Rounds 20-23: Repeat Round 7 (4 rounds of sc) Rounds 24-27:Repeat Rounds 2-6 Rounds 28-32:Repeat Round 7 (5 rounds sc) Rounds 33-36:Repeat Rounds 2-6 Rounds 37-42:Repeat Round 7 (6 rounds sc) Rounds 43-46:Repeat Rounds 2-6 Rounds 47-53:Repeat Round 7 (7 rounds sc)
You will have noticed that after a repeat of Rounds 2-6 (star Pattern) the sc rows have increased by 1, if you need to add more rounds to add length to your body do so by adding 1 extra round of sc after your Star Pattern repeat (rounds 2-6).
To finish off the Top, Work rounds 2-6 once more, fasten off and you will move on to the straps. Straps: There are 2 types of straps you can make for your top, the ch with a round of sc to edge it, or a thicker strap. Both will be Criss Cross style, unless you choose to add your own touch.
Chain with border straps: Lay your work so the back is facing you, you will want to count about 10 ( 11, 12, 13, 14) star stitches and place a st marker, repeat for the other side. In the ch2 sp of the triangle join your yarn and ch 90, You may need more or less ch depending on the fit you like, you will now join your strap to the opposite st marker with a sl st, sl st in the next st as well to secure the strap. Fasten off. Repeat for the other strap.
Now to make the border, you can use the same color yarn or choose a different color.
At about the middle of where the armpit is you will join your yarn,
make a sc in the same st, you will sc in each st until you reach the front triangle, pick up sc up the triangle until you reach the first ch strap,
sc in each ch of the strap, Sc in each of the ch from the next st until you reach the front of the top,
Pick up sc along the edge of your triangle top,
when you reach the back of your top you will crochet to the next strap
Pick up sc along the back until you reach the strap,
You will now sc in the ch again up to the top of the front strap

Once you reach the top you will now sc down the triangle across the center st, back up the other triangle, back down the ch for the other strap and along the back until you reach the first sc you made. Fasten off and you are done. Hide all loose tails and that is it My Friends!!!
Thicker Straps: Make 2 Before you make your straps if you want to add a border around your edge do so now. Join your yarn about halfway in the back of your top, sc in each st all around the back, along the triangles in the front and back again to the back. Fasten off and hide all tails. Move on to your straps.
With your hook and yarn ch 90 st or your desired length for your straps, Row 1: in the 2nd ch from hook sc, you will sc in each st until there are 3 ch left, sl st in those 3 ch, turn your work Row 2: ch1, sl st in next 2 st, sc across the rest, turn your work. Row 3: ch1, sc in each st to the last 3st, sl st in last 3 st, turn your work Rows 4-7: Repeat rows 2-3, Do Not Fasten off, you can repeat these 2 rows if you want a wider strap. Now you will Join your strap to the front triangle top by slip stitching it together, right sides together, at the point of the triangle. Fasten off and repeat for the other strap.
Now you will count about 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) star stitches from the side of the Triangles and place a st marker, repeat for the other side. You will now take one strap and criss cross it to the st marker and
either sew or sl st the strap to the back, repeat for the second strap, that’s it hide all loose tails and you are done.
