Easy Crochet Yellow Hat

Gauge: In the Waistcoat/Center Single Crochet Pattern: 13 rows and 10 st= 4 inches
Size: Child (18-20”), Youth (20-22”), Adult (21-23”)
You will need:
I love this Yarn Chunky (Bulky weight #5)
Color: Honey
Fiber: 100% acrylic
Ball weight: 109yds/ 3.5oz
Crochet hook: 6mm/J
Tapestry needle
scissors

Stitches Used:
Ch: chain
Sc: single crochet
Sl st: slip stitch
BLO: Back Loop Only
Center Single Crochet/Waistcoat stitch (closely resembles stockinette stitch in knitting): Work your sc in
between the V’s of the stitch from the previous round. This stitch needs to be worked in the round.

Instructions:
Brim:
With your hook and yarn make a slip knot and chain 8,
Row 1: sc in the second ch from hook, sc in the next 6 chains, turn your work. Total 7sc
Row 2-44 (2-48, 2-52): (working in the BLO on the first 6 st) ch1, sc in BLO of the next 6 st, sc through
both loops on the last st, turn your work. Total 7sc
With your work fold the brim in half and you will now join the 7 st together from Row 1 and row 44 (48,
52) sl st matching st for st. Turn your work so the seam is on the wrong side.
Body of the Hat:
Round 1: ch1, sc in each of the rows around your hat, you will have 44 (48, 52) sc, sl st with the first sc.
*NOTE* you will be working in the center of the sc from the previous row, you will want to make sure
that you keep your stitches on the looser side and not too tight.
Round 2: ch1, making a sc in the center of the sc from the previous round, repeat that around in each st,
sl st with the first sc you made. 44 (48, 52) st

Round 3-8 (3-10, 3-12): Repeat Round 2
Round 9 (11, 13): Ch1, *sc in the center of the next 2 st, sc2tog* repeat from *to* around, sl st with the
first st.
Round 10-11 (12-13, 14-15): Repeat Round 2
Round 12 (14, 16): Repeat Round 13
Round 13-14 (15-16, 17-18): Repeat Round 2
Round 15 (17, 19): ch1, *sc in center of the next st, sc2tog* repeat around, sl st with the first st. Fasten
off and close the opening with a tapestry needle.
Hide all loose tails and you are done with your Faux Knit Hat.
