Video Tutorial Link: click here

Size: Medium

You will need:
Koigu Kersti Merino Gradient Kit or
5 Colors of any dk weight yarn of your choice total of about 50 g/114yds per skein/hank/color

Crochet hook in sizes: 4mm, 3.75mm, 3.5mm

Sc: single crochet
DC: double crochet
Trc: Treble crochet
FP DC: Front post double crochet
(Video Link)
BP DC: Back post double crochet (Video link) 9:36 minute mark on video

Directions
To make this bigger you will test by wrapping the first 2 rows of grannies around the widest part of your hips and from there you can add more grannies if needed. To make smaller do the same but minus grannies. For the Medium size shown in the pattern I used 9 grannies per round and 18 per color.
With 4mm hook you will make 18 grannies for each of the 4 lighter colors of the skirt, leaving the darkest skein for assembling. Total of 72 grannies will be made.

Grannie:

Round 1: magic circle, ch3, 2dc in circle, ch1, 3dc in circle, ch1, 3 dc in circle, ch1, 3dc in circle, ch1, sl st in top of ch3. 4 3dc cluster with 4 ch1 spaces. Pull magic circle closed.
page1image12816 page1image12976 page1image13136 page1image13296 page1image13456 page1image13616
Round 2: Ch3, 2 dc in ch1 sp of previous round, (first half of the 4th corner)*3dc in next ch1 sp, ch1 3 dc in same ch1 space from previous round completing a corner,* Repeat 2 more times, making 3 corners, work 3 dc, ch1 in the previous ch1 sp of the last round completing the 4th corner. Sl st in top of ch3.
Round 3: Ch3, 2dc in ch1 sp of previous round, skipping to the sp between the clusters make 3dc, *skip to corner ch1 sp and 3dc, ch1, 3dc, skip to the sp between the clusters and make 3dc* repeat *to* around when you get to the last corner 3dc in ch1 sp, ch1, sl st in top of ch3.
Fasten off and hide all loose tails.

Assembling the Skirt:
Use the Video at the 13:20 min mark for help with assembling.
With the 4mm hook and the darkest yarn.
You will sc your grannies together in a zig zag direction all around to each round of grannies.

Place first row of 9 grannies, corners facing down. Then place the 2nd row above. Once they are layed out for you, you will now take the first grannie from row one and row 2 placing wrong sides together, with your 4mm hook and the darkest yarn color, attach at one of the corners, ch1. You will sc along the edge matching st on each side but only crocheting through the back loop on the front grannie and the furthest loop on the back grannie. Do not crochet through both loops. Sc this way along the edge of this first set of Grannies.
Lay the grannies down and add the 2nd grannie from row 2 This time going down the edge of the grannie. You will continue to assemble the grannies like this in a zig zag motion, adding 1 from the bottom row and one from the top row until you get to the end and form a circle with your grannies.
Continue adding your grannies from lightest to darkest row. There are 2 rows of each color.
Now that you are done assembling your grannies you will add a sc border to the top and bottom edge of the skirt as follows:

Edging:
With your 4 mm hook and the darkest yarn or your assembly yarn, Sl st in the point between 2 grannies, ch1 and sc in each st around the grannies edge, when you come to the next point between 2 grannies be sure to sc in that sp and sc along the next grannie, continue to do this until you are back where you began. Sl st in the ch1 and fasten off and hide all loose tails.
page2image22888
*Repeat this to the top of the skirt as well.
With your Darkest color you will now make 9 triangle grannies this will be for the waist to straighten out the edge so we can add the waistband.
4mm hook and darkest yarn make a magic circle
Row 1: Ch3, 2dc in circle, pull on the end yarn. Ch3 and turn your work
Row 2: at the base of your ch3 make 2 dc in same st, in the last dc of the previous row make 3 dc, ch3 and turn work
Row 3: at the base of your ch3 make 2 dc in same sp, in the sp between clusters make 3 dc, in the last dc make 3 more dc, ch3 and turn your work
Row 4: at the base of your ch 3 make 2 dc in the same sp, in the sp between clusters make 3dc 2 times, in the last dc of the previous row make 3 dc, ch3 and turn your work.
Row 5: at the base of your ch make 2dc in the same sp, in the sp between clusters make 3dc 3 times, in the last dc from previous row make 3dc. Fasten off leaving a 10 inch tail to be used to sew the triangle to the waist of the skirt.
Take your tapestry needle and sew the triangles in between the grannies filling the void area to straighten out the waist. Refer to the video at the 25 min mark.
Now to create the waist.
Round 1: With 4mm hook and the darkest yarn sl st in between the triangles, this is the lowest part of the edge. Ch3 counts as a treble, in the next st dc, hdc across the top of the triangle to the next point in between the triangles, You will dc in the next st, treble crochet in the middle of the 2 triangles dc in the next st and half dc across the top of the triangle, continue like this across the entire edge of the waist making a dc in the last st and sl st in the top of the ch3.
Need help go to the video and at the 26:00 min mark is where we start the waist band. Switch to the 3.75mm
Round 2: Ch3 (counts as FP DC) in the next dc from previous round FP DC, *BP DC in the next 2 dc, FP DC in the next 2* Repeat * to* around when you reach the ch3 from beginning of round sl st in the top of it.
Repeat Round 2, 4 more times.
Switch to 3.5mm hook
Repeat Round 2 for 4 more rows or until you are happy with the length.
Fasten off and hide all loose tails. That’s it you are done!!!

Easy Crochet Cocoon Cardigan Tutorial

Easy Crochet Cocoon Cardigan Tutorial
By: Annoo Crochet Designs

Tutorial Link: click here

You will need:
8 skeins Lion Brand Wool-Ease
3oz/84g/197yds
in color Blush Heather or any soft worsted weight yarn will work.
Crochet hook 9mm
Scissors
Tapestry needle

Measuring tape

Stitches Used:
DC: Double crochet
Corner cluster: 3double crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet Cluster: 3 double crochet
FP DC: Front Post Double Crochet
BP DC: Back Post Double Crochet

This easy cardigan is made from a large Granny square, you can make it smaller or larger depending on what size you want to make just measure from the base of your neck to just below your bottom, your granny should be that wide. To determine your sleeve opening fold granny in half and measure from the fold, round off to the highest number and divide that by 3.. So my measurements were 20 1⁄2, rounded to 21 divided by 3, 7 inches for my opening. If the opening is too small or too large just adjust to your taste. Follow the instructions for adding the sleeve border and neckline border.
Gauge: Working granny square for 3 rounds with 9mm hook square should be about 5 inches x 5 inches Remember you want a loose fabric, if you crochet tight just go up a hook size.
page1image12864

Directions:
With your 9mm hook and yarn make a magic circle
Round 1: ch3 (counts as first dc), in the magic circle 2dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, sl st in ch3. 4 clusters of 3 dc. Pull the string from the magic circle closed.
Round 2: Ch3, in the ch1 space before the ch3 you just made work 2dc (you will do this for every round), in the next ch1 space work a corner cluster( 3dc, ch1, 3dc), repeat in the next 2 ch1 spaces, in the last ch1 space there will be 3 dc already, you will work 3dc and a ch1, sl st to the top of the ch3.
Round 3: Ch3, in the same space 2dc (first half of the first corner), *3dc in space between 3dc cluster from previous round, in the ch1 space of the corner work a corner cluster (3dc, ch1, 3dc)* Repeat *to* 2 more times, 3dc in space between 3dc cluster from previous round, in the last corner finish the second half of the cluster (3dc, ch1 ), sl st at the top of ch3.
Round 4-33: Repeat round 3, You will be increasing a 3dc clusters in between the corner clusters by 1 for every row. So round 3 has 1 3dc cluster, round 4 will have 2, round 5 will have 3 and so on.
Round 34: (Border round) Ch3, 2dc in same ch1 space from previous round,* dc in each dc across (no more making clusters between corners), work corner cluster in the corner (3dc, ch1, 3dc)* repeat *to* around till you are back at the half of the first corner cluster, 3dc in ch1sp, ch1, sl st in top of ch3. Total of 39dc between corners or 180 total dc for entire round.
Fasten off and leave about 30 inch tail for sewing your cardigan.
My granny when these rows are complete measures 41 inches x 41 inches. I like it to be oversized and sit below my knees.
Fold your cardigan in half right sides together, from the fold edge measure 7 inches and with a scarp length of yarn or safety pin mark the 7 inch mark to leave opened for your arm, the rest you will sew.
Refer to the Video Tutorial at 16:40 minute mark.
page2image19560

You will now begin sewing the cardigan, with your needle and yarn starting at the ch1 space of the corners picking up the back loops only on both sides, sew up the length to the marker of the arm opening. You will only sew the short sides of your cardigan the long side is to be left open. Repeat for the other arm opening. Turn it right side out.
With the cardigan still folded, grab the middle of the long side and open it.
Refer to the Video Tutorial at the 18:38 minute mark
You will now add a border to your neckline opening.
Neckline Border:
Refer to the Video Tutorial at the 19:39 minute mark for help.
There are 2 corners at the seem, start with the one closest to your left hand, join yarn in the ch1 space,
Round 1: ch3, 2 dc in same space, You will now work a FP DC in each dc around to the next seem, in the ch1 space of the corner you will work 3dc, repeat once more in the opposite side of the seem in the ch1 space of the corner, Proceed to make a FP DC in each dc around to last ch1 sp, work 3dc, sl st in top of ch3.
Rounds 2-5: Ch3, FP DC in each dc from previous round. Fasten off and hide all loose threads.
Sleeve Border
With your 9mm hook and yarn, join yarn to the bottom left side of your arm opening. Refer to the Video Tutorial 23:26 for help.
Round 1-3: Ch3 (counts as BP DC), *FP DC in next dc, BP DC in next dc*, repeat *to* around, ending with a FP DC. If it doesn’t add up add an extra dc, sl st to top of ch3.
 page3image16224 page3image16384 page3image16544 page3image16704 page3image16864

You may like your sleeves to be longer if so just add more rounds until you are happy with the length. Fasten off and repeat the same for the other sleeve. Hide all loose tails and you are all done with your Cocoon Cardigan.

If you are making this bigger or smaller remember to add more or less rows in multiple of 2s in between your decrease rows for desired length. With 7mm hook ch 51

Fasten off.
Now make your second half repeating rows 1-22 but
DO NOT fasten off.
Place your first half of fin on top of the second half of the fin, matching the shape. You will now ch1 and sc along the short sides of the fin, matching the stitches, work to the last 3 hdc leaving them free. Fasten off and hide all loose tails. You are now done with your fin. Time to Assemble!
You can go back to the Crochet Mermaid Tail Video at the 18:32 min mark for help with assembling your tail.
You will now sew the fin on your mermaid tail. The fin will be wider than the body, that is ok you will gather it all up at the end with a running stitch.
Take a long piece of yarn and your tapestry needle and locate the center of the mermaids tail and the middle of the fin. You will sew one half then the other, sew through all layers of the tail and fin, pinching the fin to gather as you go. Once you have sewn the first half do the same for the other half. Then sew a running stitch across the bottom of the tail and pull the thread to gather the tail some more. Sew in and out once more and fasten off, hide all loose strings and you are all done with your mermaid tail.

Happy Crochet to all
