Patriotic Cushion Free Tutorial

Did you know that The first people to use pillows were those who lived in early civilizations of Mesopotamia around 7,000BC. During this time, only the wealthy and more fortunate people of the world were the ones who used pillows.The number of pillows symbolized status, so the more pillows one owned, the more affluence he or she held...;-)))

You will need:

Hook 2.75mm
Berroco Comfort Dk in  Blue
Berroco Comfort Dk in  Red
Berroco Comfort Dk in  White
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Round Pillow

Stitches used:

ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet

Pattern: (make 2)


Round 1: With red yarn, in a magic circle, ch3
 15dc, sl st with first ch3 (16 dc)



Round 2: switch to white yarn, Ch3,

dc in same st,

2dc in each st, sl st in first ch3 (32dc)


Round 3: with Blue yarn, ch3,

make 3 dc in same st , omitting the last st at every dc, you will have 4 loops on your hook,

yarn over and through all the loops, you just created your first cluster,

 *[ch2, sk a st, in next st,make 4 dc in same st , omitting the last st at every dc, you will have 4 loops on your hook, yarn over and through all the loops, you just created a cluster,]


* Repeat from * to * all around, sl st in first ch3


Round 4: With white yarn ch4,

*dc in next ch2 from previous round,

ch, dc on top of cluster from previous round, ch* repeat from * to *



Round 5: with red Yarn, ch5,

*dc in next dc from previous round. ch2*, Repeat from * to * all around, sl st with first ch5.


Round 6: With White Yarn, sl st in ch2 from previous round, ch3,

make 3 dc in same st ,

omitting the last st at every dc, you will have 4 loops on your hook, yarn over and through all the loops, you just created your first cluster, *[ch2, in next ch 2 from previous round make 4 dc in same st , omitting the last st at every dc, you will have 5 loops on your hook, yarn over and through all the loops, you just created a cluster]*

, Repeat from * to * all around,ch2 sl st with first cluster.



Round 7: with blue yarn, *ch3,

3dc in same sc,

sc on top of next cluster,

* repeat from * to * all around



Round 8: with white yarn, sl st, sc in same st,

*[ch4, sc at top of next shell]*repeat from * to * all around



Round 9: with red yarn, sl st hdc in same st,

*2hdc along ch from previous round hdc in next sc*,


repeat from * to * all around

Round 10: with white yarn, ch3 dc in each st all around sl st with first ch3


Round 11: with blue yarn, sl st,ch2,

 hdc in next st, hdc all around sl st with first.


Round 12: with white yarn, sl st, sc in same st,


*sk 2 st, 6dc in next, sk 2 st, sc in next*, repeat from * to * all around



Round 14: with red yarn, sl st, ch7,

 *sc on 3rd dc from previous round, ch4, dc in sc from previous round, ch4* repeat from * to * all around



Round 15: with white yarn, ch3, dc in next st, dc all around sl st with first ch3


Round 16: with blue yarn, ch4, cluster, ( see round 6) *ch2 sk 2 st, cluster in next* repeat from * to * all around





Round 17: with white yarn, *ch3, 3dc in same sc, sc on top of next cluster,* repeat from * to * all around





Do Not Fasten off
place two circles right side facing each other and sc all around until you are 3/4 done. Fasten off sew in all tails.




Turn your work right side out, and place the pillow inside. with your tapestry needle finish closing the gap you left to place the pillow in.


Voila, You are done!!!

  6. My second circle was larger than the first I will make two separate pillows and crochet a solid back for each!
